Terms

The terms for using LinSync

Last updated 29 October 2026.

The short version

  • LinSync is free, for anyone, for any use. There's nothing to buy and no account.
  • It's free software under the GNU General Public License: you can read, change and share its code.
  • It comes with no warranty. Keep more than one copy of anything that matters, and check your backups.
  • When you back up to a cloud service, that service's own terms apply too.

Who these terms are with

LinSync is made by Brilliant Hosting, Somerset, England (brilliant-hosting.com). By downloading or using LinSync, or this website, you agree to these terms.

Your licence to use it

LinSync is licensed under the GNU General Public License, version 3 or later. You may run it for any purpose, study and change it, and share it, changed or not, as that licence says. The licence comes with every download, in the LICENSE file. Parts of LinSync made by others keep their own licences, which come with them: rclone (MIT licence), 7-Zip (GNU LGPL), Python (PSF licence) and the fonts (SIL Open Font License).

No warranty

LinSync is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, as set out in the GPL. Brilliant Hosting works to make it safe (it runs trial runs, keeps replaced and deleted files in an archive, and stops a run that would delete too much), but can't promise it will work on every computer or never lose a file. You are responsible for checking your backups and keeping more than one copy of anything important.

As far as the law allows, Brilliant Hosting is not liable for any loss or damage from using LinSync, including lost or damaged files. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or your statutory rights as a consumer.

Cloud services and other computers

  • LinSync can copy to Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, Box, pCloud, Amazon S3, Backblaze B2 and other storage you connect. You need your own account with each, and its terms (including any costs and storage limits) apply to what you store there.
  • When you connect Google Drive, LinSync can only reach the files it creates there. How LinSync treats Google data is set out in the privacy policy.
  • Only copy to computers and accounts that are yours, or that you have permission to use.

Using it fairly

Don't use LinSync to break the law, to copy files you have no right to, or to get into computers or accounts that aren't yours.

Your privacy

LinSync runs on your computer and has no servers or account. See the privacy policy for exactly what happens with your files and data.

Changes, and the law

If these terms change, the new version will be here, with its date at the top. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. Questions: dan@brilliant-hosting.com.
